Rewarding Work: Six Keys to Success & Satisfaction
With Anne Waymann, MA, Izabel Coutu, MA & David Gobby, MA

Local tools

Description

In the past, productivity was regarded by many as strictly a technical process of measuring output based on work processes, labour hours and measures of labour effort. After decades of research, we know that productivity is inextricably linked to creating healthy human relations, increasing trust and the quality of relationships and increasing the emphasis of intrinsic rewards that motivate people to work together efficiently and effectively towards a common set of goals.

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to the six criteria identified by Fred Emery and Einar Thursud that underpin workplace productivity. In presenting the six criteria, the workshop will also introduce participants to the principles of Open Systems Theory (OST), particularly organizational design and the analysis of an organization in the context of its environment.

After completing this one-day workshop, participants will, the same day, receive a Certificate attesting to their participation in this workshop.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be introduced to Emery’s Open System Theory as it applies to perspectives on workplace productivity
  • They will experience both the appreciative process and the principles of participative design
  • Participants will examine the intrinsic motivators that drive productive work and, through dialogue, will discover actions to drive change within their own organization that will positively affect productivity
  • Through an alternative view of organizational design and system-in-environment, participants will be encouraged to learn more about the business argument for participative democracy in the workplace.
  • Participants will engage in dialogue about how organization design influences productivity and will discover strategies and principles to change management and team behaviour towards mutual respect, empowerment, and flexibility – employee input into goals, plans and workflow.

Methodology

This workshop is designed to create an experiential and participative learning environment using both small group process and large group conversations supplemented by a presentation of theory followed by dialogue. This workshop employs the appreciative process and principles of OST in order to create this environment for experiential learning as well as for the diffusion of OST concepts and practices.

Who will benefit?

This workshop is for everyone who is interested in improving productivity and fostering healthy human relations within any organization. Managers, HR practitioners, employees, or volunteers who want a better understanding or different perspectives of their workplace and their organizational design, as well as community leaders looking to foster more community engagement and participation, students in management or organizational development, planners and professionals involved in strategic planning or organizational effectiveness.
